The Director

Suzanne Dunbar B.Sc. Dip.Ed. MA Spirituality

Sue trained in spiritual formation at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership, Chicago, becoming a staff member there while completing a master’s degree in Spirituality at Loyola University.

Sue has particular training in accompanying people using dreamwork, active imagination and focusing. These skills are incorporated into her spiritual direction practice.

Sue says:
The prophetic dimension of spiritual direction, which challenges both myself and those whom I guide to see as God sees, offers a hope-filled alternative and a call to justice for the world today.

Sue DunbarSue’s commitment to spiritual formation has also led to roles as:

  • National President for the Australian Network for Spiritual Direction
  • Australian Ecumenical Council for Spiritual Direction council member
  • Eremos Retreat Team member
  • Various roles with Spiritual Directors International

This is in addition to her work as a spiritual director and retreat/workshop leader.

Sue began her career with a degree in Physics and teaching science, retrained as a designer, and then moved into educational management and corporate education before working full time in spiritual formation.

Prior to becoming director of Barnabas Ministries, Sue spent 5 years as Spiritual Formation Facilitator with the Uniting Church of Australia.
